12/15/1936 city council minutes:
"Mrs. W.H. Wilkie, 1130 Shattuck Avenue, appeared before the Council and asked if something could not be done in the matter of trimming the trees on Amador Avenue near Shattuck Avenue; that the controversy has affected one property owner in such a way that he states he will sell his property to negroes; she stated that it has been reported that property in the neighborhood had been sold to Japanese and that they were contemplating building on the property. She asked what could be done to save the situation.
City Manager Thompson stated that he was having a house to house canvass made of the neighborhood and felt that by next Tuesday he would be prepared to give a report on it."
